Aah, the wonder of washable crayons and markers.

I have recently discovered the wonderful world of washable crayons and markers.  The entire time my little boy has been coloring, I've been concerned about him coloring on the walls, television, and furniture with his crayons.  Markers have been completely out of the question, until now!

Sure, I knew there was such a thing as a washable marker, but I didn't realize there were washable crayons.  Even the markers seemed to be a waste of money.  They had to at least STAIN, right?  -Nope.

The other day, while walking through Wal-Mart, we came across these washable crayons called Tadoodles . In case you've never heard of Tadoodles , they're a line of washable crayons and markers contained within the cutest little animal holders that are designed to fit more easily into a small child's hand.

When we got home, I took the Crayola crayons off of our son's little art desk and replaced them with the washable crayons.  Once he got over the fact that he had crayons that looked like cool little animals, our little one got to work on coloring his giant coloring book.  When he was done with the first picture, I could see a really big improvement in his coloring.

A little while later, I walked out into the room with his art desk in it and, to my dismay, there were crayon marks on EVERYTHING.  There were scribbles of all colors on the desk, the (newly painted) white wall, and the new electric fireplace we got for Christmas this past year.

My first thought was that I should have put the crayons away.  I usually put Crayola crayons back in the box, but these new Tadoodles didn't have a box at all.

I happened to have a damp dish towel in my hand and, without really thinking about it, I wiped the damp rag across the dark scribbles on the fireplace and they came off!  No kidding.  Without leaving even the lightest stain, the crayon marks wiped off of everything, even the white wall.

After that, I was sold.  The next day, I got him the washable markers too.  He now makes a habit of decorating his art desk with markers.  I don't have to worry about him writing on anything and, after I take a picture of his wonderful artwork, I just wipe the desk off and it looks brand new.

Since he's had the markers, our little man has covered his nice clothes with marker stains and they always wash right out.  I've not had anything stained by these and I couldn't be happier.

Anything that allows my son to have fun and learn, while eliminating some of my stress, is a winner.  The washable Tadoodles crayons and markers are a winner. I've seen tub crayons, paint and stampers by the same company as well, but haven't tried them yet. A+

Mum does NOT recommend buying the cheap wax crayons from the dollar store.  They are not that much cheaper than Crayola.  In fact, if you hit the "Back to School" sales, Crayola crayons are often much less expensive than generic.  If you don't believe me, check out Wal-Mart.  Last year, a box of 24 Crayola crayons cost only $.25 at the major retailer's back-to-school sale.

While most crayons are non-toxic, there is a reason why the box says "non-toxic".  Some crayons sold at the dollar store could be toxic.  If the crayon box doesn't say "non-toxic", and the crayons aren't going to make a mark anyway (as most cheap wax crayons don't), then why waste even a dollar on them?  It's not economical for you, and it will make you look like you're cheap.  Worse yet, older children might think you don't care about their gift!

Honestly, there are many other brand names of crayons, but Crayola crayons are still the best, and the kids know it too.
